Preseason HSFA California Top 25 High School Football Rankings
Another year brings another fierce battle for the top spot in the High School Football America California Top 25 between Trinity League arch-rivals Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.
Five-time HSFA national champion Mater Dei begins the 2025 season atop the statewide rankings, created with our proprietary algorithm and powered by NFL Play Football. The Monarchs will be aiming for their third straight national title.
Mater Dei opens the season with a tough interstate showdown, traveling across the country to face St. Thomas Aquinas, Florida’s record six-time defending state champion. The Raiders enter the year ranked No. 10 nationally.
Together, Mater Dei and St. John Bosco have claimed seven of the last eight HSFA national titles. This year, the two rivals are once again ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in our national rankings.
Bosco comes in at No. 2 for 2025. The Braves will also head to Florida next week to play No. 113 Manatee, coached by former NFL wide receiver Jacquez Green.
Everyone has Halloween Night circled, as Mater Dei and St. John Bosco will close out the regular season with their annual grudge match—a game that may be followed by another playoff meeting. Since 2016, MD and SJB have faced off twice in the same season seven times.
Checking in behind Mater Dei and Bosco is Corona Centennial at No. 3. The Huskies will take on three Trinity League teams in 2025: No. 11 Servite (August 22), No. 6 Santa Margarita (August 28), and Mater Dei (September 12).
Orange Lutheran enters at No. 4. Like Mater Dei and Bosco, OLu will also open the season in Florida, facing Miami Northwestern, No. 23 in the HSFA 300 national rankings. The Bulls may see a transformed squad this year, as head coach Teddy Bridgewater—who led them to a Florida 3A title last year—resumes his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bridgewater was suspended by Florida’s state governing body for providing “impermissible benefits” to his players.
All six Trinity League teams are highly ranked:
